Columbus Catfish News Release


Columbus, GA - The Hickory Crawdads (19-22) scored early and late to defeat the Columbus Catfish (17-23) 10-2 at Golden Park Thursday night.

For the 2nd straight night, Hickory scored 3 in the 1st inning. Jose De Los Santos began the game by reaching on a throwing error by shortstop Omar Luna. Austin McClune than moved De Los Santos to 3rd and De Los Santos scored on a double steal, where McClune was caught at second base. Miles Durham than singled and he proceeded to score on a Maiko Loyola error that allowed Erik Huber to reach 2nd base. Tom Hagan than hit a run-scoring double to right centerfield that scored Huber and gave Hickory a 3-0 lead.

Hickory continued scoring in the top of the 2nd, as Miles Durham delivered a monster 3-run home run over the left field wall that blew the game wide open. Erik Huber than followed with a single and Tom Hagan than hit a run-scoring double to straightaway centerfield to give Hickory a commanding 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Columbus answered with a James Mayer groundout that scored Stephen Vogt. Columbus than answered again in the bottom of the 4th when Henry Wrigley hit a no-doubt home run over the left field wall to make the score 7-2.

Hickory would score 3 more runs in the 8th and 9th innings to win the game 10-2 and get a series win against the Catfish.

Hickory was led offensively by Miles Durham, who went 3-5 with 2 runs and a 3-run home run. Hickory had a number of players with 2 hits including Austin McClune (2-6), Ronald Pena (2-5), Keanon Simon (2-5) and Matt Cavagnaro (2-4). On the mound, Rafael De Los Santos received his 2nd win of the season after baffling Columbus hitters for 7 innings as he allowed only 4 hits and 2 earned runs.

Columbus was led by 1B Henry Wrigley, who went 2-3 with the home run. Jason Ragan received his 3rd loss of the season after being unable to make it out of the 2nd inning. Jesse Darcy fired 5 shutout innings in relief and Shawn Williams made his pitching debut and he allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in his 1 inning of work.

The Catfish return to action Friday at 7:00 with a 4-game series against Augusta (Giants) at Golden Park.

The Catfish are the Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
