Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - After a first-inning, three-run homer from Kory Casto, Wade Miley did the rest of the work for the BayBears on Friday night in front of 5,041 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium as they claimed the rubber game of their three-game series with the Jacksonville Suns in a 6-1 victory.

Miley (2-1) dissected the Suns (51-41, 11-11) over eight innings while striking out three and scattering seven hits. He was only touched for one unearned run which came in the top of the first after a Bryan Byrne error allowed Ozzie Martinez to reach with one out. Brandon Tripp singled Martinez to third, and he scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Vinny Rottino.

In the bottom of the first, the BayBears (48-42, 12-10) struck quickly against starter Jeff Allison (5-6). Evan Frey singled sharply to right while Collin Cowgill followed with a line-drive single to left field. Casto then blasted a three-run jack over the wall in right-center to give the BayBears a 3-1 lead.

They weren't done with their opening-inning scoring against Allison as Byrne commenced a new rally with a one-out single. He advanced to third on a double off the right-field wall by Taylor Harbin. Jake Elmore grounded out to second to bring home Byrne, finishing off a four-run first.

The BayBears tacked on to their lead with single tallies in the fourth and eighth innings. Ollie Linton reached on a bunt single in the fourth and stole second before eventually scoring on a Frey sac fly. In the eighth, Harbin singled against Garrett Parcell and floated around the bases after three walks including a bases-loaded pass to Cowgill, making it 6-1.

Miley was lifted after eight frames in favor of Jeff Dietz, who tossed a scoreless ninth. Miley has allowed just one earned run in 15.1 innings against the Suns this year while earning both of his wins. He lowered his ERA to 1.27 in a BayBear uniform with Friday night's performance.

The BayBears continue their seven-game homestand on Saturday night while welcoming the Mississippi Braves to Hank Aaron Stadium at 7:05. It's a Kids-Eat-Free Saturday with children 12 and under receiving a free hot dog and Pepsi voucher to go with a purchased box seat.
