Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL- Palm Beach catcher, Casey Rasmus, entered tonight's contest seeking his first hit at the Advanced-A level. The 36th round pick out of Liberty University not only collected his first hit, he provided the Cardinals with their first win of the second half with a go-ahead 2-RBI triple in the 6th.

Top prospect Tyrell Jenkins got the starting nod for Palm Beach. The 6'4'' right-hander cruised through the first three innings, giving up only one hit (single to right field in the second) while inducing six ground outs. However, Jenkins hit some rough waters in the 4th as he struggled with his command, giving up three runs on 4 singles, a triple and a wild pitch before being replaced by Travis Miller. The highly touted prospect hit 95 on the stadium gun while displaying an impressive repertoire of sharp breaking off-speed pitches.

Seven of the Cardinals' starting nine collected hits on the night, including four players with multi-hit nights (Nick Longmire (3-4, 3B, 2R, 2RBI), Casey Rasmus (2-4, 3B, 2RBI), Starlin Rodriguez (2-4, R) and Colin Walsh (2-4, R)). Nick Longmire is now 16-27 (.592) in his last seven games, raising his batting average 36 points during the span.

Palm Beach will begin a three game series against the Fort Myers Miracle tomorrow, 5:05 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium. RHP Kurt Heyer (1-1, 5.23 ERA) is set to throw against RHP Manuel Soliman (0-1, 10.29 ERA).
