North Carolina Courage News Release
Cary, NC - NC Courage goalkeeper Casey Murphy and forward Lynn Williams have been called to the US Women's National Team November training camp, the club announced today. The camp will be held in Australia from November 21 through December 1 and will include two friendly matches in Sydney and Newcastle. The matches will be played on November 26 at 11 p.m. ET and November 30 at 4 a.m. ET, and will air on FS2 (Nov. 26) and ESPN (Nov. 30) respectively, in which the US will take on Australia in consecutive matches.
No stranger to the international stage, Lynn Williams has made 43 appearances for the United States, scoring 14 goals and assisting another ten. Most recently, Williams notched a goal against South Korea during an international friendly in Saint Paul, Minnesota, tallying the final goal of the match in stoppage time to seal the 6-0 scoreline. The Fresno, CA native also registered her first Olympic appearance in the Tokyo Games this summer, clocking minutes in three matches and adding a goal and an assist for the USWNT. With the Courage this season, Williams scored seven goals, collected two assists, and maintained a near-perfect 95.7% success rate in tackles, and is the NWSL's league leader in assists and shots taken.
This will be Casey Murphy's third call-up to the US Women's National Team, her previous call-up taking place ahead of the 2021 She Believes Cup. Arguably one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the NWSL this season, Murphy posted eleven clean sheets in 24 matches played, tying a league record for clean sheets in an individual season set by Adrianna Franch. The Rutgers alum also maintained an 82% success rate in saves while collecting 33 catches, fourteen punches, and 20 clearances, and currently leads the league in saves, totaling 109 saves over the course of the regular and postseason. During the quarterfinal round of the NWSL playoffs, Murphy broke her own record for most saves in an individual playoff match, making 13 saves against the Washington Spirit.
