Cary Invasion News Release

Cary, NC: Two teams with a long history on and off the court, the Cary Invasion and the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, squared off in Cary on Sunday night. The Cary Invasion owner co-founded and then left the Wilmington Sea Dawgs three years ago to begin building the team in Cary. Two Invasion players were former Sea Dawgs. The Dawgs were still stinging from being knocked out of the TRBL playoffs last year by the Invasion. Both teams are founding members of the Tobacco Road Basketball League.

The Invasion hold the edge in the series, but games between the two teams have always been heated and close, and with tempers always on edge. A re-tooled Wilmington Sea Dawgs squad arrived to play the Invasion with a new coach and several new players, including former collegiate and European basketball star Brett Blizzard. It was a predictable recipe for an exciting game, and the odds delivered.

The game was tight the entire way, with neither team enjoying more than a few possession lead at any point in the game. Blizzard did not disappoint, shooting with deadly accuracy from long range. The Dawgs seemingly got to every loose ball, got every key offensive rebound, and found open jump shooters at will. Cary led at the break by a bucket.

The second half was more of the same, but the deeper and bigger Invasion team exploited its size advantage inside, getting inside buckets and getting to the free throw line. The long ball from Wilmington kept it close to the final minute however. Trailing by 4 with less than 1 second left, Blizzard was fouled on a 3-point shot. Blizzard drained the first two free throws with ease, but the intentional third miss fell into Invasion hands, and the game was over. The Invasion won 118-116. Invasion guard Freddie Little led all scorers with 29 points. Former Sea Dawg Charles Ward had 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Invasion. Brett Blizzard led Wilmington with 28 points.

The Invasion (2-0) play next on Friday, April 19th against the undefeated Fayetteville Crossover (2-0) in Fayetteville. The TRBL East Division lead is on the line. For more information, please write info@caryinvasion.com.
