Carson Rehkopf Regains OHL Goals Lead in 6-2 Win over Peterborough

Kitchener dominated a Peterborough family day matinee, winning 6-2. They went down by two goals early in the game however rallied back and scored six unanswered goals to secure the win. With the victory, Kitchener extended their win streak to four games and has scored six goals in each of their past three games.

Carson Rehkopf scored twice to again take over the OHL lead in goals passing Anthony Romani of North Bay. He now has 45 goals on the season. Rehkopf also extended his point streak to six games in the contest. Simon Motew scored today in his 200th career OHL game. He has 19 goals and 63 assists for 82 points as a Ranger. Matthew Sop recorded a goal and an assist in the contest extending his point streak to three games while Hunter Brzustewicz recorded an assist to extend his point streak to four.

1st Period

5:22 Caden Taylor (7) - Tommy Purdeller, Grayden Strohack

Caden Taylor opened the scoring off a solo effort. Taylor pinched down from the blueline on a loose puck, holding it in the Rangers' zone. Once he established possession, he fired it on net from a tough angle fooling Tristan Malboeuf and putting the Petes up early.

PBO 2, KIT 0

14:25 Ryder McIntyre (7) - Chase Lefebvre

Peterborough extended their lead as Ryder McIntyre shoveled the puck past Tristan Malboeuf. The goaltender stopped the first shot off the stick of Chase Lefebvre, however, three Petes crashed the net and the puck landed on McIntyre's stick. Malboeuf did the splits to stop it however McIntyre snuck it under his pad to extend the lead to two.

19:11 Carson Rehkopf (44) - Matthew Sop, Cameron Reid

Carson Rehkopf scored top-shelf from in tight to bring the Rangers back within one goal late in the period. Cameron Reid took possession of the puck behind the Peterborough net. He swung around and attempted a pass to Matthew Sop perched atop the goal crease. The pass was deflected off Sop and onto Rehkopf's stick who was charging down towards the net. While in motion he flipped the puck up, top corner for Kitchener's first of the game.

2nd Period

PBO 2, KIT 2

1:06 Eduard Šalé (11) - Carson Rehkopf, Hunter Brzustewicz - PPG

Eduard Šalé tied the game up with a power play marker. The Rangers were awarded a power play with two seconds remaining in the first period as Chase Lefebvre took a hooking penalty while defending Matthew Sop. Hunter Brzustewicz brought the puck into the Peterborough zone and moved the puck to Carson Rehkopf. Rehkopf sent a pass cross-ice to Eduard Šalé who was skating down into the zone. Without breaking stride, he shot the puck just inside the post over Liam Sztuska's blocker side pad.

17:56 Simon Motew (9) - Cameron Reid, Cameron Mercer

Simon Motew put Kitchener ahead for the first time in the contest as he rocketed a wrist shot into the net from the point. Cameron Mercer won the faceoff back to Motew at the point. Motew passed the puck to Cameron Reid as Mercer went to the front of the net and screened Liam Sztuska. Motew received the puck back from Reid once Sztuska was screened and scored the Rangers' third unanswered goal of the game.

3rd Period

PBO 2, KIT 4

0:35 Carson Rehkopf (45) - Eduard Šalé, Filip Mešár - PPG

A beautiful passing play led to Carson Rehkopf's second goal of the game. Kitchener was awarded the power play as Liam Ladds was called for tripping at 18:45 of the second period. Hunter Brzustewicz sent the puck down to the Filip Mešár in the bumper spot. Mešár sent the puck to the glove side faceoff circle to Eduard Šalé, who moved the puck cross-ice to Rehkopf. The league's top goal scorer rocketed the shot blocker side for the power play marker.

PBO 2, KIT 5

1:32 Matthew Sop (35) - Matthew Andonovski, Simon Motew

Matthew Sop received a pass from Matthew Andonovski down low by the crease. Sop brought the puck to his backhand around the Petes' defenders and back to his forehand around Liam Sztuska for Kitchener's fifth unanswered goal.

PBO 2, KIT 6

7:34 Tanner Lam (11) - Luca Romano

Luca Romano took the puck in centre ice and passed it to Tanner Lam who rifled the puck top shelf as he was entering the zone to extend the Rangers lead. Lam brought the puck in on a three-on-one, however, he opted to shoot high glove making the right decision as he scored putting Kitchener up 6-2.

The Goalies:

Liam Sztuska gave up six goals on 49 shots in today's start. His season record moves to 9-21-4-1 on the season. Tristan Malboeuf got the start for the Rangers and he saw 34 shots stopping 32 of them. His record improved to 13-5-1-0 on the campaign.

Up Next: The Rangers will return home Friday to take on the Sarnia Sting for the fourth time this season. Kitchener will look to sweep the season series having won the first three games, they will also be looking to extend their current win streak to five games. Kitchener has outscored Sarnia 15-5 including scoring six goals in each of the past two matchups.
