Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors engaged in a defensive battle against their crosstown rivals, the Brampton Battalion, this evening and shut them out 1-0. Chris Carrozzi was stellar in net, registering 41 saves and earning his first career shutout. As a result, the Majors record their sixth straight win and watch their record climb to 13-11-1-0 in the process.
It was a hard-checking, even game through the first two periods, with the Battalion outshooting the Majors 28-16. Both teams traded high-quality chances but the goaltenders stood tall.
The Majors finally broke the gooseegg in the 3rd period, shortly after having a goal disallowed. Mike Pelech knocked home a rebound chance off of a Cameron Gaunce shot. Then, the home squad held strong the remainder of the way.
Carrozzi's 41 saves were countered by Bryan Pitton's 20 stops for Brampton. The Majors power-play was 0 for 4 while the Battalion went 0 for 5. The game's three stars were Carrozzi (1st), Pelech (2nd) and Brampton's John Hughes (3rd).
The Majors head out on the road to battle the Peterborough Petes tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. Then, they return home to host the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Majors tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office two hours prior to the puck drop on game-days or during regular business hours or by logging on to the Majors web site.
