Carrasco Crushes Keys
June 29, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Frederick, MD - Another sparkling performance from a starting pitcher combined with a big offensive night from Dennicher Carrasco led the Wilmington Blue Rocks to a 7-2 win over the Frederick Keys on Saturday at Nymeo Field. Rito Lugo allowed just one unearned run in a spot-start victory and Carrasco added four RBI as the Blue Crew captured their second straight.
Lugo was making his sixth start of the season due to Tuesday's doubleheader. The lefty made the most of the opportunity, allowing just two hits and fanning five while working around three free passes. Frederick got an unearned tally in the first thanks to a Carrasco error and an RBI-grounder from Trevor Craport.
Carrasco more than made up for his defensive miscue thanks to a stellar night with the bat. The third baseman came just a triple shy of the cycle, drove in four runs and scored two others.
His biggest blow came in the third. With the bases loaded Carrasco launched a fly ball to center that one-hopped the fence scoring Rudy Martin, Blake Perkins and MJ Melendez. Carrasco put an even better swing on the ball his next time up, sending a solo shot over the left-center fence. He singled in the eighth and came home on Nick Pratto's two-run bomb to dead-center.
Wilmington wraps up its seven-game road trip on Sunday in Frederick. Southpaw Austin Cox takes the mound for the Blue Crew as first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:
