
Carpenter Promoted to Big Leagues

(LANCASTER, CA) - David Carpenter, a relief pitcher who made six appearances with the JetHawks in 2010, was called up to the Major Leagues by the Houston Astros, Lancaster's parent club. He pitched a scoreless in his debut Thursday and became the 99th former JetHawk to make it to the Major Leagues.
After being acquired by Houston in a trade that sent Pedro Feliz to the St. Louis Cardinals, Carpenter went 1-1 with a 3.52 earned run average in six appearances with the JetHawks last season. He was the winning pitcher in the only no-hitter in franchise history, a 3-1 triumph over Lake Elsinore on Aug. 25, 2010.
The 25-year-old right-hander began the 2011 campaign with Double-A Corpus Christi and posted an 0-1 record with five saves and a 4.50 earned run average in 14 appearances with the Hooks. He recorded nine saves and tossed 19 scoreless innings in 19 appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City before being promoted to Houston.
Carpenter, a native of Morgantown, W.Va., was selected in the 12th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft by the Cardinals out of West Virginia University.
