Carpenter Pleased With Training Camp Pace

March 9, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
The Marshals News Release

Cincinnati, OH - New Cincinnati Marshals football coach Steve Carpenter has liked what he saw the first three days of training camp at the Middletown Tennis and Sports Club.

"It has gone pretty good," Carpenter said. "We are just the third day in, but I am pretty happy. "Of course, we still have some holes to fill."

The competition for spots on the 2006 Marshals has been what Carpenter expected heading into camp.

"We knew we had good talent going in," Carpenter said. "There have been some positions where there is more competition than I thought there would be."

The Marshals made their first round of cuts and plan on making the final cuts after an intersquad scrimmage on Saturday night.

Carpenter will make his head coaching debut when the Marshals travel to St. Louis to face the River City Rage on March 26, and says the people in place have helped him get training camp rolling the way he had hoped it would.

"It has been great," Carpenter said. "I believe we have the best staff in the conference. I have 12 guys that I trust and they are working their tails off. And, the ownership group is working their tail off to make sure we have what we need to be successful. So far it has been good. I'm getting everything out of them and more than I thought."

Cincinnati kicks off the home season on April 1 when they host the Dayton Bulldogs at U.S. Bank Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Season tickets are on sale now and can be ordered by calling 513-381-TURF. Individual game tickets are available at the U.S. Bank Arena Box Office, at all Ticketmaster locations including select Kroger stores, online at www.ticketmaster.com or call 513-562-4949.
