ROSEMONT - Chicago Bandits standout second baseman Emily Carosone and outfielder Jessie Scroggins were named to the National Pro Fastpitch Week 9 Players of the Week list, league officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
Carosone, who garnered the Boombah Player of the Week award, continued her torrid stretch of play at the plate. The third-year pro batted .500 across four games against the Beijing Shougang Eagles and raised her league-best slugging percentage to an astounding .855 mark. Carosone delivered a pair of home runs during Thursday's doubleheader sweep, which included a 21-0 rout of the Eagles. Both home runs, her league-leading ninth and 10th of the season, respectively, opened the scoring in each contest.
The former Auburn standout's 10 long balls represent a career-high tally.
Scroggins, whom the Bandits selected 15th overall in the third round of the 2018 NPF Draft, sustained her presence as a potential MVP candidate with another dominant offensive showing and captured Rawlings Rookie of the Week honors. The former Baylor Bear hit safely in nine of her 12 at-bats throughout the week, including a 5-for-6 day at the plate in the 21-0 blowout of Beijing. Scroggins added three doubles and scored four runs in the victory to help raise her league-high batting average to .459 on the season.
The Bandits will be back in action as they begin a two-game set against the Cleveland Comets at 7:35 p.m. Friday at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
