North Carolina FC News Release

The Carolina RailHawks organization announced Monday it will match the contributions collected on Saturday June 23rd for the families of the Charleston "9", the firemen who gave their lives on Monday June 18th in a furniture store blaze.

The Railhawks together with members of the Cary Professional Firefighters association will present a check for $ 10,000 to the City of Charleston's Firemen's Fund on August 14th when they visit the Charleston Battery in a rematch of last Saturday Night's game.

The Carolina RailHawks are extremely grateful for the tremendous support shown by their loyal fans as they dropped money in the boots held by members of the local firefighters association throughout the evening.

"The fans of the RailHawks stepped up," a Carolina RailHawks spokesperson said. "While a soccer match seems insignificant in comparison to the loss of lives suffered by the City of Charleston, the community came together and showed tremendous support for the victims of this terrible tragedy and their families."

The Carolina RailHawks are a United Soccer Leagues expansion team that entered the USL First Division in April 2007. The squad will play 14 regular season home games and four additional home playoff and exhibition games each year, with all home games played at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Under Rochester Rhinos co-owner and USL Hall of Fame inductee Chris Economides, the RailHawks organization was formed in October 2005 and awarded the USL franchise in January 2006.
