August 21, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Thursday, August 21, 2008) - The Carolina RailHawks announced today they have acquired Cuban forward Rey Angel Martinez and he is expected to join the squad this week. Martinez will most likely make his RailHawks debut on Friday, August 22, as the RailHawks travel to Minnesota to face the Thunder.
"Rey is an offensive threat," said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. "He is a good outside flank player with the ability and speed to run at players. This will not only help us offensively but also relieve us defensively."
Martinez spent the last three and a half seasons with the Rochester Rhinos tallying eight goals and six assists during his 48 career-matches in Rochester. Prior to joining the Rhinos he spent one season with Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids in 2004. He defected from Cuba during the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup in Los Angeles with his Cuban teammate and Puerto Rico Islanders forward Alberto Delgado.
RailHawks fans in the Triangle will have a chance to see Martinez perform on Saturday, August 30, at 7:30 PM as the RailHawks host the Montreal Impact at WakeMed Soccer Park. Tickets for this and all Carolina RailHawks events are available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
