Carolina Courage News Release
UPCOMING GAME: Carolina Courage (0-1-0, 0 pts) vs. Boston Breakers (1-1-0, 3 pts) DATE: Saturday, April 19th TIME: 7:00 pm (EST) PLACE: SAS Stadium
TELEVISION: Triangle TV (Channel 24 - Raleigh) Time Warner Cable ALL-TIME SERIES RECORD: Series tied 2-2-2 Jay Entlich on facing the Boston Breakers:
"We're going to have to keep their forwards in check, especially Dagny Mellgren who has been on fire the last month. Offensively, we think we have the ability to get in behind their backline. However, to do so, we will need to win the battle in midfield, which is where games are won and lost."
Courage Players Go To The Movies: Ten members of the Carolina Courage took part in a special screening of "Bend It Like Beckham" at the Madstone Theater in Cary on Friday night. Courage players signed autographs before and after the showing, and forward Danielle Fotopoulos introduced the movie to a packed house.
The Week Ahead:
Familiar Faces On Opposing Benches: The Boston Breakers-Carolina Courage match-up on Saturday will reunite over a dozen players with their respective National Team teammates, as both the Courage and Breakers have looked to Canada, Germany, and Norway to supply international talent. The Norwegian players are Carolina's Hege Riise and Unni Lehn and Boston's Dagny Mellgren.
The Germans are the Courage's Birgit Prinz and the Breakers' Maren Meinert, and the Canucks consist of Carolina's Breanna Boyd and Boston goalkeeper Karina Leblanc. In addition to the foreign players, this match will pit U.S. National Team stars Danielle Slaton and Tiffany Roberts for the Courage against Kristine Lilly, Kate Sobrero, Jena Kluegel, and Angela Hucles of Boston.
Which Boston Team Will Show Up?: The Boston Breakers are a big of an enigma thus far this season. After posting an impressive 2-1 victory on the road against San Diego, the Breakers were shelled 6-0 by Atlanta on Saturday. Fotopoulos Leads The Courage Against Northern Foe: The Courage's top scorer against Boston is Danielle Fotopoulos, who has scored 3 goals and 1 assists in six games against the Breakers.
