ALL-TIME SERIES RECORD: CyberRays leads 3-0-0

SERIES HISTORY: The reigning WUSA Champion CyberRays have dominated this match-up, winning all previous meetings and outscoring the Courage 6-2. Last season, Carolina traveled to Spartan Stadium twice and hosted the ‘Rays once.

5/13/01 (@ San Jose, L 1-2): In the first meeting, the Courage struck early. Danielle Fotopoulos headed home a Hege Riise corner to put the Courage ahead after only six minutes. The lead was short-lived, however, and an own goal in the 42nd minute by Wen Lirong evened things up going into halftime. In the 67th minute, Brazilian playmaker Sissi and UNC legend Tisha Venturini-Hoch combined for the game winner.

6/17/01 (@ San Jose, L 0-2): Playing without Norwegian midfielder Hege Riise and goalkeeper Bente Nordby, who were playing in the European Championships, as well as Canadian striker Silvana Burtini, the Courage could not muster much offense. The CyberRays, led by an inspired Katia, out-shot the Courage 23-4 and received goals from Julie Murray and Tisha Venturini-Hoch.

7/29/01 (@ Carolina, L 1-2): In a game the Courage controlled statistically, the CyberRays opportunistically pounced on their chances to dash the Courage's postseason hopes. Second half sub Kim Clark sparked San Jose with a goal and an assist in only 36 minutes of play. Carolina Carla Overbeck refused to let the Courage go down without a fight, notching her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, a missed penalty kick by Danielle Fotopoulos in the final twenty minutes put the brakes on a dramatic Courage comeback.
