Carolina Assigns Eleven Players To Albany

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has assigned eleven players from their training camp roster to the Albany River Rats.

Forwards Mike Angelidis, Nicolas Blanchard, Stefan Chaput, Nick Dodge, Patrick Dwyer, Bobby Hughes, Harrison Reed and Ryan Weston; defensemen Ryan McGinnis and Benn Olson; and goaltender David Leggio will join the Hurricanes' top minor-league affiliate as the River Rats open their training camp next week.

The River Rats will have the first on-ice session of their 2008 AHL Training Camp on Tuesday, October 30th with a 10:30 am practice at the Times Union Center; it will be the first official practice under new Head Coach/General Manager Jeff Daniels. Albany will open up their preseason schedule with a home exhibition game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday, October 1st at 7:00 pm. Albany plans to announce their initial training camp roster next Monday, September 29th.

The Hurricanes' training camp roster stands at 42 players heading into a back-to-back, home-and-home set of preseason games against the Philadelphia Flyers. Carolina will travel to Philadelphia on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Flyers at the Wachovia Spectrum (NHL Network/Hurricanes Radio Network), and the teams will meet again at the RBC Center on Sunday (3 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes open their regular season schedule on Friday, Oct. 10 against the Florida Panthers.

The Albany River Rats will open up the 2008-09 regular season schedule at home on Saturday, October 11th against Bridgeport with a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center. River Rats season ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now for Albany's 16th season of operations in the American Hockey League and their third year as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes.
