Georgia Force News Release

Duluth, GA (August 11, 2011) - Force kicker Carlos Martinez has drawn a great deal of attention from the NFL throughout his career, so it should be no surprise that he excels at the indoor game. On Wednesday, the league recognized his proficiency by naming him NAPA Kicker of the Year.

"It's a tremendous honor," said Martinez. "I have to thank my teammates and coaches for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills. I'm really thankful for the support I've received from my family, especially my wife."

Martinez led all AFL kickers with 146 points and a 91.1 percent success rate on extra points. He finished tied for second in total field goals (11) and second in field goal percentage (61.1). His season-long field goal was a 47-yarder, second-longest of the year.

This is the fifth time in his AFL career that he has connected on over 100 extra points. He has logged time in camp with a host of NFL teams, including Kansas City, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Philadelphia. He spent 2006 and 2007 with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

"Carlos is a tremendous boost offense. It's huge having a kicker who is going to hit every extra point," said Force head coach Dean Cokinos. "The timely field goals take pressure off our offense because you can take your shots [down the field] and you know Carlos will get points."

Martinez joins C.J. Johnson, who was named to the All-Iron Team on Monday, and Maurice Purify, who was named Aaron's Rookie of the Year and The Big Game Breakout Player of the Year on Tuesday, as Force players who have collected postseason hardware.
