Carlos Guzmán Earns TOTW Honors for Week 6
April 16, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay F.C. remained unbeaten at home over the weekend, adding three important points in a win over Las Vegas Lights FC at Cardinale Stadium on Saturday night. The win moved the club into third place in the Western Conference as things stand early on, and the performance by Carlos Guzmán played as large of a role as any on the night's result. Now, Guzmán has earned a spot on USL Championship's Team of the Week for Week 6.
The nod gives Guzmán his second Team of the Week honor in the first six weeks of the season and comes without a doubt after his overall performance in the Club's win over Las Vegas. Moving to the outside of the backline in a pinch, Guzmán spent the night flying up and down the left side of the pitch. Guzmán completed 56 of his 67 passes, won nine duels defensively, and tallied four clearances and four tackles. Most impressively however, the Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico native recorded two assists on the night, including the game-winning assist in the 45th minute that spectacularly set up what should be the goal of the week across the league from Tristan Trager.
Below is USL Championship's full Team of the Week for Week 6 lined up in a 3-4-3 formation:
Goalkeeper - Jackson Lee (RI)
Defenders - Carlos Guzmán (MB), John Stenberg (PHX), Kwame Awuah (LDN)
