DENVER - Colorado Mammoth forward Dan Carey was named to the 2006 National Lacrosse League Edge Active Care All-Rookie team on Tuesday.

Carey, 24, was the Mammoth's second-leading scorer this season with 62 points, tying the team's rookie record set by Brian Langtry in 2003. Carey, the Mammoth's first selection and seventh overall pick in the 2005 NLL entry draft, tallied 17 goals and 45 assists in his first pro season.

"Dan came here and made an immediate impact on our team," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He gave us some much-needed scoring on our left side and impressed everyone with his hard work."

A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Carey played one season at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., and led the Griffins with 30 goals in 2005 before declaring for the draft. Carey returns to Buffalo this weekend when the Mammoth takes on the Buffalo Bandits in the NLL championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. Mountain time. He has three goals and two assists in the Mammoth's two playoff games this year.

Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill was named the league's Rookie of the Year. Joining Carey and Merrill on the All-Rookie team are forwards Sean Greenhalgh of the Philadelphia Wings, Jeff Zywicki and Luke Wiles of the San Jose Stealth, and Shawn Evans of the Rochester Knighthawks.
