New York Dragons QB Aaron Garcia and WR Kevin Swayne can hit career milestones this weekend when the Dragons take on the Georgia Force on Sunday at 3pm at the Nassau Coliseum.
Garcia needs just four touchdowns to reach 850 career touchdown passes. He would be just the third quarterback in AFL history to reach that mark. Garcia sits at third on the all-time touchdown list with 846. The only quarterbacks to throw more touchdowns are Dallas' Clint Dolezel (901) and Chicago's Sherdrick Bonner (854).
Garcia also needs just 309 passing yards to reach 40,000 for his career. Only Dolezel, Bonner and Georgia's Andy Kelly have thrown for over 40,000 yards in their careers.
Garcia was named one of the AFL's Greatest Players of All Time in 2006, and his resurgence this season has him back among the best quarterbacks in the league. More importantly, the 14-year veteran has rallied his team to five straight wins, turning a 1-4 record into 6-4 and putting the Dragons right in the middle of the playoff hunt.
"Fourteen years of experience; he's seen it all, he's in control, and with time he's proven he can go with the best of them," said head coach Weylan Harding.
In eight games this season, Garcia has completed 174-of-273 passes for 1,838 yards and 44 touchdowns.
WR Kevin Swayne has been on the receiving end of 19 of those touchdowns this season, and he nears a career milestone as well. Swayne needs just 103 receiving yards to reach 8,000 in his career. He would be just the 18th player in AFL history to reach such a milestone.
This season, Swayne has recorded 55 receptions for 675 yards and 19 touchdowns, and he overtook the franchise record in career receptions, receiving yards and points along the way. Swayne is now the sole holder of every Dragons franchise receiving record.
