New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) and Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) tried valiantly to play their scheduled contest but were unable to play an official game. Torrential rain and hail delayed the start of the game and then fog finished off what the rain could not, forcing tonights contest to be suspended in the top of the 5th with the Cardinals leading, 4-3.

In this game, New York Yankees pitcher Steve Karsay pitched one inning and was on the losing end of the game, allowing the Cardinals to score their 3rd and 4th runs in the bottom of the fourth. Karsay allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, and struck out one, in one inning pitched. This marks the second straight year that a major league pitcher has rehabbed at Skylands Park, as last season New York Mets pitcher Mike Stanton started for the Brooklyn Cyclones on July 10, 2003.

A completion date has not yet been announced as the two teams are not scheduled to play again this season. Fans with tickets to tonights game may exchange them for a ticket of similar value for any remaining home game, subject to availability. For exchanges, visit the Cardinals ticket office at Skylands Park.

Following an off-day on Tuesday, Williamsport (Pittsburgh Pirates) stops in at Skylands Park for a 5-game set. Doubleheaders with the Crosscutters are slated for Wednesday and Thursday night beginning at 6:00 pm, and Fridays single game will begin at 7:15. Wednesday is Dog Dayssponsored by the Daily Record; Miller Lite Bat Bonanza, sponosored by Miller Lite and the New Jersey Herald, will be held on Thursday, and Friday night is fireworks night sponsored by Condit Toyota, Toyota Motors USA and The Star Ledger.
