Cards split with Cyclones

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Cardinals lost the final game of a 2-game set to the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets), 9-5, in front of 5,595 fans. Edgar Alfonzo (2-0) picked up the win for Brooklyn as Jason John (0-1) picked up the loss for the Cardinals. Celso Rondon also notched his 1st save of the season for Brooklyn. The Cyclones used an 8 run 4th inning to propel themselves to the victory.

Kevin House led the Cardinals with 2 hits and a run scored. House tripled in the 2nd, and later doubled and scored in the 4th. Marcos Rodriguez contributed to the cause with a 2-run double in the 3rd inning. Jaymie Torres and Chris Della Rocco both continued to pitch well in relief, with each giving up just 1 earned run in 2.1 and 3 innings respectively.

The Cardinals travel to Aberdeen tomorrow for a two-game holiday weekend set with the Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). The club returns home to Skylands Park on Monday to open a three-game series with the Tri-City Valley Cats (Houston Astros) beginning at 7:15 pm. Monday night kids eat free sponsored by KFC and The New Jersey Herald, and Tuesday there is a post-game party at the Hampton House Grill and Bar with Cardinals players, coaches and staff.
