Cards lose to Ironbirds

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Cardinals dropped the series opener 6-4 against the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). Jeremy Zick (0-1) was the losing pitcher for New Jersey, while Kyle Boehm (1-0) picked up the victory for Aberdeen. Brandon Spillers earned his 1st save of the season.

After falling behind after the top of the 3rd, the Cardinals rallied. Cory Taillon led off the bottom of the 3rd and Tee Thomas followed with a double. Sean Dobson grounded to second to score Taillon and then Chris Patrick grounded to short to score Thomas. With the score still 4-2 in the 5th, Dobson singled to right field with one out. One out later, Jarrett Hoffpauir walked and the Cards had two men on. Casey Grimm singled home a run and then tying run scored when Jacob Mullinax reached on an error. The Ironbirds then scored two runs in the 8th to take the win.

Sean Dobson and Casey Grimm paced the Cardinals offense, each collecting 2 and an RBI. Jaymie Torres pitched 2 scoreless innings and Chris Della Rocco threw a scoreless 9th to anchor the pitching staff.

The Cardinals finish their two-game series with the Aberdeen Ironbirds on Tuesday at 7:15 pm at Skylands Park. The first 1000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of Newton Veterinary Hospital and the Hampton House Bar & Grill will host a post-game party.
