New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles) 7-5. New Jersey improves to 30-39 as the Ironbirds drop to 36-34. Miguel Aguero (1-0) picked up his 1st win for the Cardinals as Joe Coppinger (5-4) gets the loss for the Ironbirds. Justin Garza picks up his 1st save. Aguero went 5.1 innings giving up 7 hits, 4 earned runs, and struck out 4.
The Cardinals scored 4 runs in the 2nd, 2 runs in the 3rd and 1 in the Rally Cow 6th inning. In the 2nd inning with one out Daylon Monette walked, followed by a Joe Mather ground rule double, which moved Monette to third. Pagnozzi then singled to drive in Monette. Kevin Estrada followed with a 2 run double to score Mather and Pagnozzi. Estrada then stole third and Omar Pena hit a sacrifice fly to score Estrada. During the 3rd inning, with one out Brendan Ryan singled and later stole second base. Billy Schmitt also singled. Monette singled to score Ryan and Schmitt advanced to second. Schmitt scored on a wild pitch after stealing third. In the Rally Cow 6th Monette led off with a double. Sal Frisella pinch ran for Monette. Mather singled and moved Frisella to third. Then Pagnozzi hit a sacrifice fly to score Frisella.
Monette went 2-2, with a walk, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Pagnozzi was 1-2 with 2 RBI's. Mather was 2-3 with 1 run scored.
The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow night with a 3 game series against the Batavia Muckdogs. After the game there will be a fireworks spectacular show sponsored by J.C.P.&L. There will also be a Miller Lite Bat Raffle.
