Cards fall to Crosscutters

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (17-17) were defeated by the Williamsport Crosscutters (14-21), 4-3, in front of 3,644 fans. Dennis Dove (0-4) took the loss pitching 5 innings and giving up 3 runs. Matt Guillory (4-1) collected his fourth win of the season after giving up 1 run in 6 innings of work.

The Cutters jumped out to a 3-0 lead on home runs by Wanell Macia and Sean Smith in the 3rd inning. The Cardinals came back in the 8th when they scored 3 runs. Matt Shepherd and Sean Dobson led off with singles, and Steve Sherman followed with a 2 RBI double. Wes Swackhamer drove in the final run with a RBI single.

Tomorrow the club begins a season-high 6-game road trip that includes stops in Williamsport and Mahoning Valley (Cleveland Indians). The next home game for the Cards is Sunday, August 1, when the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) are in town to open a 3-game set. Next Sunday, is Bat Giveaway Day sponsored by Newton Memorial Hospital and The New Jersey Herald. On Wednesday, July 28, the Cardinals host their annual celebrity golf outing to raise money for the New Jersey Cardinals Scholarship Fund and the Stand By Me Foundation.
