Cardinals win openers

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) beat the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) 6-1. New Jersey improves to 1-0 as the Renegades fall to 0-1. Miguel Aguero picked up the win for the Cardinals. Brandon Mann picked up the loss for Hudson Valley. Aguero went 7 strong innings giving up 1 earned run on just 5 hits, while striking out 9 batters. Brandon Mann, who started for the Renegades, went 5 2/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits.

The Cardinals opened up the scoring with a 4 run 6th inning. After a one out walk to Sean Dobson, Chris Patrick doubled to center to drive in Dobson and the games first run. Then, with two outs, Levi Webber kept the inning alive with an RBI double to center knocking in Patrick. Cody Palmer followed with an RBI double to left and was later driven in on a two out single by Kyle Boyer.

Cody Palmer and Kyle Boyer both went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jason John and Chris Bova both worked a scoreless inning of relief to close out the victory. Hudson Valleys Matthew Spring had the games only home run in the 7th inning, providing the Renegades only run of the night.

The Cardinals will travel to Fishkill, NY on Saturday, before returning home on Sunday to face the Renegades. On Sunday, all dads will receive free admission to the game, sponsored by Condit Toyota. The first 1,000 kids will receive free deli sandwiches from Shop-Rite Sandwiches, and the first 1,250 fans will receive a Cardinals magnetic schedule courtesy of Miller Lite. After the game, fans will have a chance to take batting practice. If they hit a home run, that fan will receive $100 and a new gas grill from Eastern Propane.
