Vermont Expos home opener on Monday

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Expos begin the home portion of their 11th New York-Penn League season at Centennial Field on Monday night when they host the Lowell Spinners and all fans in attendance will receive a Vermont Expos magnetic schedule from Pepsi.

Monday morning Champ 101.3 FM will be broadcasting "Corm and the Coach" live from the ballpark. Steve Cormier and Tom Brennan will be on air from 6:00 am-9:00 am at Centennial Field, while Expos mascot Champ and Joey Victory drive around the Burlington area in a convertible and give out tickets to Vermont's season-opener.

Champ will then head over to the Claire M. Lintilhac Birthing Center at Fletcher Allen at 10:00 am to help kickoff a new promotion between the Expos and Fletcher Allen. Champ will deliver pink and blue baseball for newborns at the birthing center, along with ticket vouchers for the new mom and dads. The promotion will continue throughout the baseball season.

Then prior to the game, Vermont Governor Jim Douglas will celebrate part of his birthday with the Expos by throwing out the first pitch. Also on Monday, 2001 Vermont Expos pitcher and current Montreal Expos reliever Chad Bentz will be at Centennial Field to take part in pre-game activities and sign autographs at the Autograph Booth in the concourse area just after the start of the 7:05 p.m. game.

The Expos brief two-game homestand will conclude on Tuesday as Cabot Cheese and "The Logger" Rusty Dewees present the "Dinkie Logger" contest. All kids 12 and under who come to the game dressed as "The Logger" will receive free admission to the game, other free merchandise and may be picked to take part in the "Dinky Logger" contest throughout the game with the winner taking home a special "Logger" trophy.
