Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals (10-5) shutout the Lakeland Flying Tigers (9-6) by a final score of 6-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the win, Palm Beach earned the series victory and remain in first place in the FSL East Division with a one game lead over the Jupiter Hammerheads.
The Cardinals struck first on offense for the fourth game in a row. In the bottom of the third inning, Chase Davis (No. 5 STL prospect on MLB Pipeline) drove in Trey Paige to give the Beach Birds a 1-0 lead. Palm Beach added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Lizandro Espinoza at third base, Tre Richardson got the run home on a fielding error which also allowed Richardson to advance to second base. Two batters later, Jose Cordoba hit an RBI double to make it a 3-0 Cardinals lead.
During that time, Palm Beach starting pitcher Jose Davila (W, 1-0) was dominant on the mound and finished his day with six shutout innings with one hit, three walks, and four strikeouts and his ERA remains at 0.00 in 2024.
The Cardinals were not done offensively on the afternoon. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Palm Beach loaded the bases with one out and Richardson brought everyone home on a three-RBI triple to make it 6-0 in what would end up being the final score. The Cardinals have won all three series they have played so far this season and remain in sole possession of first place in the division.
Benjamin Arias (H, 1) and Henry Gomez combined for three scoreless innings in relief to help shutdown the Flying Tigers offense. Miguel Villarroel went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored at the plate. Cordoba finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
The Palm Beach Cardinals hit the road this week for six games against the Ft. Myers Mighty Mussels beginning Tuesday, April 23rd. The Cardinals will return to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Tuesday, April 30th when they welcome the Daytona Tortugas for the start of a six-game series.
