New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) in comeback fashion by scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the 6-5 win. With the win the Cardinals improve to 5-10, and Hudson Valley drops to 9-6. Brantley Jordan picked up the win for the Cardinals to move to 1-0 pitching 1.1 innings and allowing no hits or runs. Carlos Fernandez took the loss for the Renegades to fall to 0-1 on the season.

Down 5-2 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals drew three straight walks to load the bases with no outs. Carlos Fernandezs wild pitch allowed New Jerseys Kevin Estrada to score and moved Jose Virgil to third and Kainoa Obrey (who was replaced by pinch runner Matt Pagnozzi at second base) to second. Melvin Falu then hit a ground ball that was booted by Hudson Valley shortstop Aneudi Cuevas allowing Virgil and Pagnozzi to score, tying the game at 5-5. Billy Schmitt then advanced Falu to second with a sacrifice bunt and Falu stole third base. Following a Joe Mather strikeout, pinch hitter Casey Grimm hit a deep single to right center that plated Falu for the winning run.

The Cardinals will take on the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow in Staten Island. New Jersey returns home on Friday, July 4th, at 7:15 PM against Staten Island. There will be a massive fireworks show following the game sponsored by Condit Toyota World and Condit Ford, Lincoln Mercury World and a bat raffle courtesy of Miller Lite.
