Cardinals, Postgame Fireworks Steal the Show Sunday Night

July 3, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

The Palm Beach Cardinals put on a show in front of 4,485 fans at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday Night for Mega Bash, featuring the series finale against the Daytona Tortugas as well as lots of family fun and postgame fireworks!

Taking a 3-1 win in Abacoa, the Cardinals clinched a 4-2 series win over their foes from the north. Palm Beach also got back above .500, improving to 37-36 overall after starting the season 14-27. Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Cardinals move to 7-2 in the second half of the Florida State League season and move within one game of second place in the overall division standings.

The fans saw a July 4th Weekend fireworks display at the ballpark, but starting pitcher Bryan Pope provided fireworks of his own on the mound, tossing eight innings, striking out 11 Tortugas, and allowing just one earned run Sunday. Hayes Heinecke finished the ballgame, inducing an outfield assist at home plate to conclude the game. Daytona mustered just five hits overall, and was held off the scoreboard with the only exception being a solo homer from Michel Triana in the fourth.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the third, with a two-RBI single from catcher Leonardo Bernal. Darlin Moquete would drive in Adanson Cruz in the sixth inning, helping restore Palm Beach's two-run cushion. Jeremy Rivas, Matt Chamberlain and Jesus Orechhia each logged two hits on Sunday to lead the team.

Palm Beach's homestand may be over, but the fun certainly is not. The Beach Birds will look to continue their winning ways as the road team against in-stadium rivals, the Jupiter Hammerheads. The July 4th game will be Night Two of Mega Bash, with a 6 p.m. first pitch! Tickets to the game can be purchased here, with another postgame fireworks show to follow!
