Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals fell on Sunday afternoon to cap their home regular season slate in 2022. Allowing two runs in the first inning, they would drop a 10-4 decision to the Daytona Tortugas at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Brody Moore led the Beach Birds offensively, going 3-5 with three RBI. In total, eight of Palm Beach's nine starting position players finished with a hit, and each reached base in the loss. While the Cardinals collected 10 hits in total, they allowed 12 and also committed three errors defensively.
Moore and Joshua Baez had RBI singled in the first to tie the game at 2-2, but the Tortugas added a trio of runs in the fourth to chase Cardinal starter Jose Davila after three and 2/3 innings. Daytona had another tally an inning later and extended their lead with another three runs in the sixth, going ahead 9-3.
While Moore drove in a run each in the fifth and seventh, the Cardinals surrendered another run in the eighth. Alfredo Ruiz, Yonael Dominguez, Nelfri Contreras, Ian Badell, and Tanner Jacobson combined for five and 1/3 frames, five strikeouts, three earned runs out of the bullpen for Palm Beach.
In the playoff hunt, the Cards see their magic number between them and Jupiter stand at one, with six games remaining in the Florida State League regular season. Palm Beach can secure a postseason berth by finishing with the second-best overall record in the division, or a second-half division title. Likewise, the Cardinals currently hold a three-game second-half FSL East lead over St. Lucie.
Palm Beach heads to the Dunedin Blue Jays for a six-game series to close the 2022 regular season. First pitch on Tuesday at TD Ballpark is set for 6:30 p.m.
