March 10, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - Pascal Rheaume and the Flint Generals smothered the Dayton Gems Wednesday night at Hara Arena beating the Gems by a final score of 8-3, with Gens captain Rheaume scoring half of the eight goals.

The Generals got out to a quick start, scoring three goals in under nine minutes of play. Rheaume began the night's scoring just .58 seconds into the opening period. Tyler Howells made it 2-0 at the 6:39 mark with the extra attacker. Flint went up by three with Rheaume's second of the night just past the halfway point. Dayton caught the Gens sitting back and with goals from Pierce Norton and Matt Szypura before the final buzzer, the home team put the G-Men back on their heals and headed into the first intermission down only one.

Tim Hartung tied the game about midway through the middle stanza but the Gens responded with a third goal from Rheaume to complete the hat trick, this time on the power play. John Mori regained a two-goal lead for the visiting Gens at 13:33 to round out the scoring in the second.

Flint carried the play in the third and final period, peppering Dayton netminder Derek MacIntyre with 21 shots. Former Gem Dan Lapointe doubled the Gens goals the home team with Flint's 6th goal. Rheaume scored his fourth on the night one minute and thirty-five seconds later. Things got a bit heated between Russ Smith and John Mori, each dealt a five minute major for fighting (the fight completed the Gordy Howe hat trick for Mori of an assist, a goal and a fight). Matt Moffat scored the final Gens goal with .08 seconds remaining to give Flint the 8-3 win.

Rob Nolan turned aside 35 of Dayton's 38 shots and the Generals went 1 of 4 on the power play. The five goal win was the largest margin of victory for the Gens this season and is the team's third straight which ties their season high (they've won three straight twice before).

The teams meet again this Friday, March 12th at Perani Arena in Flint for a 7:30PM start. The game marks another City Pride Night, pitting Brighton and Howell against each other, as well as the return of Facebook Fridays.

Tickets for Friday's game are available at the Perani Arena Ticket Office, by phone at 810-744-0580, or through Ticketmaster. For group ticket information, call the Generals Office at 810-744-0222.
