West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

The West Michigan Whitecaps ended a frustrating sequence on Sunday afternoon with a 5-4 win in ten innings over the Beloit Snappers in Wisconsin. Center fielder Victor Mendez cracked the Whitecaps third home run of the game in the tenth inning to help end the 'Caps six-game losing streak. The 'Caps, who saw a two-run ninth inning lead disappear, finish their 8-game road trip with a 2-6 record.

The Snappers scored first with a single run in the third for a 1-0 lead. The Whitecaps grabbed a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a 2-run homer by Matt Oakes, the first homer in Oakes' career.

After Beloit's Prince Fielder tied the score with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth, the 'Caps Juan Gonzalez broke the tie in the very next inning with his first home run of the season.

The 'Caps would add an insurance run in the eighth only to see Beloit blast a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie it. Mendez then led off the 'Caps tenth with his second homer of the season for the deciding run.

The Whitecaps will now come home for four games against these same Beloit Snappers at Fifth Third Ballpark starting on Monday night. All four games (Mon-Thurs) will be played at 6:35 with excellent seats available for all games.
