Caps Snakebit Versus Vipers

July 28, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Judging by the number of runs put up in many of their previous games against each other, it should come as no surprise that Wednesday's tilt between the Edmonton Capitals and Calgary Vipers was an offensive barn-burner.

Wednesday's game was the 10th of the season between the provincial rivals, with the Caps and Vipers averaging more than 15 total runs per outing. The teams put up 18 in their most recent game, as Calgary emerged with a 10-8 victory.

For the second straight game, the Vipers scored two runs in the ninth inning on Caps closer Chad Blackwell to claim the victory. On Sunday in Calgary, Blackwell gave up two as the Vipers came from behind to win 4-3. The teams were tied 8-8 going into the ninth on Wednesday, but the Vipers rallied again to win it.

The Caps are now 6-3 in the Golden Baseball League's second half, and although they still lead the season series with the Vipers 7-3, Calgary remains in first place in the North at 10-2. Edmonton has no chance of making the 2010 playoffs if the Vipers are able to win the second half division title.

Despite the tough loss, the Caps still had multiple players with big performances at the plate. Right fielder Tom Collaro, left fielder Larry Bigbie and catcher Josh Tarnow each had two RBI, and Stevenson was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Caps and Vipers square off once more on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at TELUS, and it's another edition of 4 for $44 Thursdays, where fans can purchase four tickets to the game, four Pepsi products and four hot dogs for just $44. Thursday is also Team Poster Night, presented by 91.7 The Bounce, as all fans will receive a free Caps team poster.
