Caps Add Depth To Infield

July 28, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals have added another infielder and a Golden Baseball League nomad to their lineup in Eric Scriven.

Scriven, 26, officially joined the Caps on Wednesday, after the team purchased his contract from the Yuma Scorpions. The Western Kentucky alumnus started the 2010 season with Yuma and was then dealt to the Tijuana Cimarrones before getting picked up again by the Scorpions.

The Cimarrones and Scorpions both played recent away series against the Caps, and due to the rapid transactions, Scriven has spent almost all of the last three weeks in Edmonton, with a few days in Calgary and Victoria.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Seattle, Wash., played 16 games with the Cimarrones this season, and had a solid .327 batting average, though he only drove in two runs and scored 12 himself in 52 at-bats. He also played 24 games with the Scorpions, upping his average to .368, driving in three runs and scoring 21 times in 57 at-bats.

Prior to playing in the GBL this season, Scriven spent the last three summers in the Northern League, hitting .242 with five home runs, 57 RBI and 83 runs in 195 games. He played for both Kansas City and Joliet.

The Caps (6-2 in GBL second half) host the Calgary Vipers (9-2) on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at TELUS Field before embarking on an 11-day road trip that has them taking on the Orange County Flyers three times and the Maui Na Koa Ikaika seven times.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
