Caps Pick up First Win of the Season

Madison Capitols News Release
After struggling over the first two games in Pittsburgh last week, the Capitols started their home portion of the schedule on the right foot hosting the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Madison opened the night by raising the 2022-23 Eastern Conference Champions banner. Something that had never been done before by the organization was followed by something that has not been done this season, which was the Capitols striking first. Miko Matikka lazered one past the Saints goaltender to start the game on a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second, it was Caps, Caps, and more Caps with Finn Brink starting the second period scoring. Brink's first goal of the regular season extended the lead to two, which did not last for long. That's because of a goal just two minutes later from Jonah Aegerter to extend the lead to 3-0. The Caps were not done with scoring in the third period with Matt McGroarty making the lead four three minutes later.
Dubuque was able to knock the lead to only three, which was only the case for just over a minute. Jack Musa registered his second of the season to extend the lead back to 5-1 heading into the second intermission.
The Saints were able to score twice in the third period to bring themselves within two late, but it would not matter with the Caps coming away victorious. A 5-3 victory earns the team the first win for Head Coach and GM Corey Leivermann.
The Capitols are back at it next weekend against Green Bay and Chicago at home on Friday and Saturday. Get your tickets at tickets.madcapshockey.com with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 pm both nights.
