Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals captured their third consecutive win on Friday night at TELUS Field with a 7-3 decision over the Lake County Fielders on the strength of multi-RBI games from right fielder Todd Linden and third baseman Carlos Duncan.
Linden and Duncan each provided a pivotal hit to lead the Caps to victory on Friday, as the outfielder Linden drove in two runs with a first-inning single while the infielder Duncan smashed a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Centre fielder Jamie McGraw and second baseman Enrique Cruz each earned one RBI on the night, while McGraw also scored two runs.
On the mound, the Caps got another quality start from Daryl Arreola, who pitched six innings and scattered three runs and eight hits with an impressive eight strikeouts. Chad Blackwell and David Davidson only gave up two total hits during the final three innings to close out the victory. Arreola improved to 5-3 on the season thanks to Friday's win, which also featured a highlight-reel diving catch from shortstop Rex Rundgren.
The Caps improved to 34-25 with their second straight win over the Fielders, but they weren't able to gain any ground in the North American League's North Division standings, as the Calgary Vipers also won on Friday to improve to 38-23 and continue to lead Edmonton by three games.
The third game of this weekend's four-game series against the Fielders goes Saturday at 7 p.m. with another edition of Saturday Night Movies presented by Herbers Autobody Repair and 96.3 Capital FM. Since the Fielders are co-owned by Kevin Costner, Field Of Dreams will be played on the inflatable big screen in centre field following the game. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and chow down on some free popcorn while they enjoy the movie.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
