Capitols Head to Youngstown for Weekend Series with the Phantoms

The Madison Capitols (9-2-1) look to continue their strong start to the the 2021-22 campaign as they head to Youngstown, Ohio for a two-game series with the Phantoms (5-6-0-2).

The last time these two Eastern Conference foes met, the Capitols swept the weekend at home and outscored the Phantoms 12-1.

Madison enters the weekend leading the USHL in goal differential at +22. The Capitols are also tied for the league lead in goals scored with the Chicago Steel with 54.

The Caps are 3-1-0 on the year when away from Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Their one road loss came at a neutral location in the first game of the season against the Des Moines Buccaneers.

Madison, who is 9-1-0 in their last 10 contests, will infiltrate the Covelli Centre with their top five special teams units. The penalty kill is operating at 85.4 percent which is good for 5th best in the USHL while their 4th ranked power play is firing at 22.9 percent.

Offensively, the Capitols are lead by their captain, Jack Horbach. The Wisconsin commit has 14 points in 12 games. He has lit the lamp three times and dished out 11 helpers. His +10 rating is tied for 3rd best in the league. He is joined in the top five by defensive teammates Blake Dangos, who leads the USHL in plus-minus with 16 and Nick Wallace, who also owns a +10 rating.

Simon Latkoczy has backstopped the Capitols in nine of their 12 games this season. His eight wins sits atop all USHL netminders. He turned away 30 of the 32 shots he faced last Saturday including all three Green Bay shootout attempts. He's been nothing short of lockdown all season long.
