Madison Capitols News Release
MIDDLETON, Wisc. - The Madison Capitols are proud to announce the acquisitions of Chris Delaney, Harper Searles, and Joey Macrina as future considerations from the Chicago Steel. The three players complete the trade between the two teams that took place in early January. The Capitols also acquired Jack Brandt and two draft picks in the trade that sent Quinn Finley to Chicago.
"We are thrilled to welcome Chris, Harper, and Joey to our organization," said Capitols Head Coach and General Manager Andy Brandt about the opportunity to have the trio join the Capitols. "Chris brings in a wealth of experience, skill, and leadership to our roster. Then, we also get to bring in two younger guys, which are always valuable in our league in Harper and Joey. We believe that this deal brings in players that will have a significant impact on our team's success as we strive to achieve our goals this season and in the future."
Delaney spent the 2022-23 season on the active roster with Chicago. With the Steel, the 2004 born forward recorded 28 points in his second season in the league. This includes being a point per game player over the last ten regular season games of the season. The Massachusetts native is committed to playing his collegiate hockey at UMass. Delaney has played in 107 USHL games, all for Chicago, registering a total of 39 points.
Searles spent the 2022-23 season playing with Centennial HS in Minnesota. With the Cougars, he recorded 67 points over 27 games while serving as a captain on the team. Searles was a fourth-round selection in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft by the Steel. Searles spent last season on Chicago's affiliated player list.
Macrina spent the 2022-23 season with the Long Island Gulls 16U AAA team. The forward from Collegeville, PA, previously played with the Valley Forge Minutemen AAA program. Macrina was a fourth-round selection in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft by the Steel. Macrina spent last season on Chicago's affiliated player list.
The deal took place on January 12th, which also sent forward Jack Brandt to the Capitols. After only finding two points in 20 games with Chicago, Brandt found his groove offensively once he hit the ice with the Capitols. Brandt recorded 21 points in 30 games with Madison including eleven points in the last nine Capitols games of the season.
With the two draft picks that the team acquired as part of the trade, the Capitols made one selection as well as trading one. With the 14th overall pick, Madison selected Nathan Tobey, a defenseman who played with the USNTDP U-18 team during the 2022-23 season. The Capitols then flipped the 30th overall pick to the Fargo Force in exchange for Dakota MacIntosh, a center playing in the BCHL with Alberni Valley.
