Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The latest chapter of pro baseball's battle of Alberta goes to the Calgary Vipers. The snakes' bats have been as hot as the weather recently down at the ballpark as they pounded out another ten hits in a 9 - 4 victory over the Edmonton Capitals. Calgary piled up 33 hits over the past two games as the home and home and home series shifts back to Calgary for another five games. That's a three game winning streak for Calgary and the second time the Vipers have taken all three games in a 3-game set between the arch rivals.
The Vipers jumped out to a 5 nothing lead in the top of the first against Caps' starter Daryl Arreola on the strength of back to back doubles from former Capital Chad Ehrnsberger and Justin Tellam.
Edmonton chipped away at that lead in the home half of the inning when Brent Metheny picked up his league leading 23rd double of the season scoring a pair of runs to make it 5 - 2 .
Carlos Duncan went yard in the third inning. His 5th home run of the season cut the lead to 5 - 4 but that's as close as Edmonton would come. Vipers pitchers scattered 6 hits over the rest of the afternoon and Ehrnsberger took it to his old team racking up 4 RBI in the contest with a pair of doubles.
It's an odd part of the schedule where the two teams play each other a total of 11 straight games. They'll start a four game series down in Calgary on Monday night. That'll be a a make-up game for a previously rained out contest earlier in the season. The Vipers extend their lead by two games over the Caps as the two teams battle it out for top spot in the North American Baseball League's North Division.
The next home game for the Caps is coming up on Saturday July 23rd against the Chico Outlaws. The next Family Pack Sunday presented by Dental Choice and 630 CHED also happens to be the Captain Capital Bobblehead game. This collector's item presented by Dental Choice is a bobblehead that doubles as a toothbrush holder and will be given to the first 500 fans attending the game.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
