Capitals Defeat Toros 9-6 On Monday

The Tucson Toros were defeated by the Edmonton Capitals 9-6 on Monday in the penultimate game of their two week road trip in Canada.

The contest's start was delayed just over an hour by stormy conditions at Telus Field. Righty Brian Daly got a spot start for the Toros after things got under way, throwing a solid 5 innings with 2 runs (1 earned) allowed. Daly was in line for his first win of the season until the Capitals got to Cibney Bello for 5 runs to blow the game open in the 6th and 7th innings.

Second Baseman Jose Valdez hit his GBL leading 8th triple of the season to score Third Baseman Wally Backman Jr. in the 6th inning. Tucson's 27 team triples lead all GBL teams, 6 ahead of second place Yuma. The Toros also have 3 of the top 5 players in the category, with Valdez leading, Centerfielder Josh Womack in second place with 7 and Shortstop Ryan Priddy in tied for third with 6.

Priddy inched his batting average back towards .300 with a 3-for-5 performance resulting in a .299 mark. First Baseman Cristobal Santana hit a solo home run in the 9th to cap the scoring for Tucson. The longball was Santana's 6th of the season.

The Toros will play the final game of the roadtrip against the Capitals on Tuesday with a scheduled 6:00 p.m. start time (Tucson time). The Toros will travel home on Wednesday before beginning a three game homestand at Hi Corbett Field against the Tijuana Cimarrones starting on Thirsty Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
