Canton Stays Hot with Sixth Straight Win at 2013 NBA D-League Showcase

RENO, NEV., Jan. 10, 2013 - It was two teams moving in opposite directions when the Canton Charge matched up with the Santa Cruz Warriors on Thursday at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase.

Canton continued their march atop the standings defeating Santa Cruz 104-93 at the Reno Events Center. Kyle Gibson scored 23 points to lead the Charge to their sixth consecutive win. Gibson was an offensive force in Reno compiling 47 points on 14-of-26 shooting in the team's two showcase contests. He also connected on 5-for-10 from behind the arc.

Canton's Micheal Eric had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He connected on two free throws to give the Charge an 80-79 lead that they would not relinquish. Eric, a 6-10 center from Nigeria, graduated from Temple University and signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in August before making his way to Canton as an affiliate player.

Jorge Gutierrez and Alex Ruoff were the biggest difference makers for the Charge in the closing minutes. Gutierrez tallied 14 points including nine in the fourth-quarter. He followed up the go-ahead free throws by Eric with back-to-back buckets and then hit a jumper to pad the lead to six at 96-90 with just over two minutes remaining. Ruoff added seven fourth-quarter points and finished with 17 for the game.

For Santa Cruz it was their fourth consecutive loss, moving their record to 9-6. Taylor Griffin continued with his strong showcase performance, scoring 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting in the game. Teammates Stefhon Hannah collected 20 points and Mickell Gladness recorded seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Chris Johnson added 17 points off the bench in the loss.

Santa Cruz will look to snap their skid tomorrow night when they play host to Tulsa. Canton (12-8) will return home to play Iowa on Saturday.
