Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge has their four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Erie BayHawks, 98-92, at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday evening. The loss dropped the Charge to 7-6 while the BayHawks improved to 6-9 as the visiting team has won both contests in the seasons series thus far.

Erie came out strong, taking a 10-3 lead in the opening three minutes of the game. Devin Green scored 10 in the first period on 4-of-6 shooting as the BayHawks led 25-21 at the break. After shooting just under 30% in the opening quarter, Canton came surging back in the second, shooting 59% on 13-of-22 attempts to take a 49-44 advantage into intermission.

The third quarter played out evenly as Canton extended their lead to eight, but the fourth is where the BayHawks found their groove. Erie went on a 16-8 run to begin the final quarter and tie the game at 78. The Charge were able to hang tough for the middle part of the fourth, but the BayHawks attack proved to be too much as they ended the game on a 16-5 run in the last 3:06 to earn the victory.

Keith McLeod led Canton in scoring with 18 points on the night. Dante Milligan supplied 12 points and nine rebounds, while Frank Hassell nabbed his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 boards with two blocks.

Canton outrebounded Erie with a season-high 48 to the BayHawks' 45. The Charge's 19 offensive boards were also a season-high, but the difference was in the fourth quarter. Erie's 36 points in the final period were the most Canton has given up in a quarter all year long.

The BayHawks were paced by Kyle Spain's 17 points and eight rebounds in the game. Mike Gerrity came off of the bench to supply 12 points and eight rebounds. Scoring was well distributed by the visitors as six Erie players out of the nine that saw action tallied double-digit points.

The Charge end the month with a 7-5 record in December and head to Fort Wayne for the first of three-straight games against the Mad Ants. Erie will continue their road trip in Springfield when they face the Armor on Tuesday night.
