
Canaries defeat JackHammers, and you could have watched it on-line!

Joliet, ILâ The Sioux Falls Canaries (12-19, 28-51) defeated the Joliet JackHammers (18-13, 42-37) 9-to-3 in front of 3,809 fans on Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers brief two-game winning streak ended, and the JackHammers are 4-and-2 versus the Canaries this season. Everyone in the Canaries starting lineup recorded at least one hit as they out-hit the JackHammers 17-to-9. The JackHammers kept their 1.5 games lead as they remained in first place of the Northern League's South Division.
The Canaries sent 13 batters to the plate, recorded 10 hits and scored eight runs in the top of the 4th inning for an 8-to-0 Canaries lead. Glenn Davis (1-for-5) drove in the first run with a single, and Carlos Pagan (2-for-5) followed with an RBI double. With two outs, Warren Gaspar (3-for-5) connected for a 2-RBI single, and Billy Brown (1-for-5) added a 2-RBI double which meant the end of the night for JackHammers starting RHP Nathan Kent (2-5). RHP Mike Ott entered the game and allowed a RBI single to Clark Parker (2-for-5) who had started the inning with a single. Juan Thomas (2-for-5) added the final RBI of the inning with a single.
Kent pitched 3.2 innings for the loss. He was charged with seven runs (all earned) on nine hits, walked none and struck out three. Miguel Hernandez (2-for-4) added an RBI single in the top of the 5th inning for a 9-to-0 Canaries lead.
Canaries starting RHP Jose Robles threw 11 pitches before he left due to injury. LHP Eric White (2-0) replaced him and lasted into the bottom of the 8th inning. After a one out single to Corey Paul (2-for-5) and a double to Bubba Smith (1-for-4), White left the game and RHP Grant Dorn entered it. The first batter, Josh Loggins (1-for-5), delivered a 2-RBI double to right-center field and then Matt McCay (1-for-4) added a RBI single. The JackHammers trailed 9-to-3. Loggins' double was his team leading 100th hit of the season. He is the second JackHammer ever to reach 100 hits in a season (Anthony Monegan-110 in '03).
White pitched 6.2 innings for the win. He was charged with two runs (both earned) on five hits, walked two and struck out six.
LOOSE GRAVEL: Beginning with Wednesday's game, the JackHammers home games can be viewed on-line via the JackHammers website (www.jackhammerbaseball.com). Will County Sports Productions operates the daily in-house camera system. That television feed can be seen on-line in conjunction with the JackHammers radio broadcast for the play-by-play. There is a $6 charge to watch each game. The JackHammers are the first team in the Northern League to have games televised on-line. This technology is provided by B2 Networks whose headquarters are in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The JackHammers and Canaries will play the third game of this four-game series at 7:05 pm on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field. All-Star RHP Wes Faust (4-6, 4.29) will start for the Canaries, and All-Star RHP Rich Hyde (10-4, 3.35) will start for the JackHammers. Wednesday is a Plainfield Community Night sponsored by First Midwest Bank. It's an "I love the '80s" kind of night sponsored by Star 96.7. Music favorites from the '80s will be heard throughout the night, and the JackHammers encourage fans to wear their favorite '80s clothing.
