MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens Executive Vice President and General Manager Marc Bergevin announced the signing of forward Blake Geoffrion to a one-year, two-way National Hockey League / American Hockey League contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Geoffrion, 24, was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens on February 17th, 2012, along with Robert Slaney and a second round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (Dalton Thrower), from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Hal Gill and a conditional fifth round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Plantation, Florida played nine games for Hamilton in 2011-2012 recording 12 points (four goals, eight assists), two power play goals, 68 shots on goal and four penalty minutes. Geoffrion also played for Milwaukee last season and posted nine points (two goals, seven assists), 64 shots on goal and eight penalty minutes in 20 games. In 74-career AHL games with the Bulldogs and the Admirals, Geoffrion has registered 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists), 216 shots on goal and 50 penalty minutes.
Geoffrion played 13 games for Montreal in 2011-2012 notching two goals, 17 shots on goal and 10 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 190-pound forward also played 22 games for Nashville last season and recorded three assists, 12 shots on goal and 17 penalty minutes. In 55-career NHL games with the Canadiens and Predators, Geoffrion has posted 13 points (eight goals, five assists), 53 shots on goal and 34 penalty minutes.
Geoffrion was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round, 56th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Geoffrion is the son of Dan Geoffrion, grandson of Bernie "Boom-Boom" Geoffrion and great-grandson of Howie Morenz, all who were former Habs.
