Cavalry FC congratulates Marco Carducci (CAN) as the recipient of the inaugural Golden Glove Award and the VW Premier Performer. Carducci had 29 appearances (between CPL and Canadian Championship Games) during the 2019 season with Cavalry FC and was the first CPL player to be called up to the Canadian National Team during the CONCACAF Nations League.
"Marco has had an exceptional season and a very worthy recipient of the 'Golden Glove' award. He was pivotal in our spring & fall season titles, setting a record of shut outs and earning himself a call up to the Canadian National team as further reward of his performances." Stated Cavalry FC Head Coach & General Manager, Tommy Wheeldon Jr. "He is very much a modern day goalkeeper that is calm under chaos and has the ability to start attacks as well as prevent opponents. Credit to him and his GK coach Jordan Santiago for the work they've done this season."
Congratulations are also in order to Cavalry FC's second league award recipient, head coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. Wheeldon Jr. was selected as the Coach of the Year. Wheeldon Jr. lead the Cavalry FC to both Spring and Fall Season titles in the club's inaugural season, as well as through 3 rounds of the Canadian Championships.
"Tommy has shown remarkable leadership since being announced as the coach and general manager of Cavalry FC. In a short time, he has created a culture -both on and off the field of play- that has lead to our early success," said Cavalry FC president and C.O.O., Ian Allison. "He inspires the players, and everyone in our organization, to bring their very best every day."
All awards take into account the nominees' performance for the full Canadian Premier League 2019 season (Spring, Fall and Finals) from April 27, 2019 to November 2, 2019. The winners were selected by a judging panel comprised of media writers and reporters from across Canada.
