OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC announced Wednesday that they have acquired experienced centre back Doneil Henry (dah-NEIL HEN-REE) on loan from Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer (MLS). Henry brings extensive MLS and English Premier League experience to Fury FC, as well as an additional boost to their Canadian content.

"Canadian soccer fans would know and recognize what Doneil can bring to our club," offered Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. "His experience, both in one of the premier leagues in the world and in North America, and competitive nature will be a great assets for Fury FC as we continue to find our rhythm and fight for our rightful place in this league."

Henry, 25, joined Whitecaps FC in December after three years with English Premier League club West Ham United FC, also spending time on loan with Blackburn Rovers FC and AC Horsens. Prior to that, Henry began his professional career with Toronto FC, starting 73 of his 93 first-team appearances across all competitions from 2010 to 2015 and winning the Canadian Championship in three consecutive years (2010-2012).

The North York, Ontario native started playing soccer with the Brampton Youth Soccer Club and North Mississauga, before joining the Toronto FC Academy in 2008. He made his debut with the Canadian national youth program in 2010 and has since cumulated 20 starts in 22 appearances for the Canadian Men's National Team in addition to being honoured with the Canadian U-20 Player of the Year award in 2012.

Henry will join Fury FC this week in training and will remain with the club until the end of May, when he is expected to return to Vancouver.

"Doneil has worked extremely hard to get himself fit this season," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "This is a great opportunity for him to play in some games and take that important next step in his recovery before returning to the club in a month's time."

Ottawa Fury FC will continue their quest for points and momentum this Saturday when they host FC Cincinnati (KO 2:00 p.m.) at TD Place.
