
Canadian Hockey League Awards 1040 Academic Scholarships

Saskatoon, SK - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that a total of 1,040 players have been awarded academic scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year.
In providing these academic scholarships, the CHL also announced that the regional leagues are collectively contributing over $4.45 million this season towards the highest number of academic scholarships ever awarded by the CHL.
The 1,040 CHL Academic Scholarship recipients consist of 348 student athletes currently playing in the league, with another 692 awarded to graduates that are enrolled in various post-secondary institutions across North America.
"On behalf of the CHL I am very pleased to announce our highest number of academic scholarships ever" commented CHL President David Branch. "CHL scholarships provide the student athlete the opportunity to pursue goals in both hockey and in school. The CHL continues to be the number one supplier of talent to the National Hockey League and to Canadian Interuniversity Sport."
Scholarship Programs throughout the CHL are funded by the member clubs of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
