Canadian Derby Saturday at Stade Saputo as Montreal Hosts Toronto
July 15, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - The first Canadian derby of the MLS calendar will take place this Saturday at Stade Saputo as CF Montréal CF (9-8-2) will host Toronto FC (5-11-4) at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, TSN, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690).
The Club will take the opportunity at halftime to induct former captain Mauro Biello to its Wall of Fame. For the occasion, fans are also invited to wear their old Impact jerseys.
Fourth in the Eastern Conference, Wilfried Nancy's team will try to get back to winning ways after two consecutive losses. This is the first such stretch since May 18 and 22 against Nashville (2-1) and Salt Lake (2-1).
Montreal has a 10-14-5 overall record against its Canadian rival. At Stade Saputo, the record stands at 3-7-1 with 11 goals scored and 19 goals conceded.
Toronto, sitting 12th in the East, is expected to play without the services of new Designated Player Lorenzo Insigne, sidelined with a calf injury since his arrival at the end of June.
Since last playing Montreal, Toronto FC also acquired defender Domenico Criscito and Canadian midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye, while parting ways with Alejandro Pozuelo (traded to Miami) and terminating the contract of Mexican defender Carlos Salcedo.
In their most recent MLS outing, the Torontonians let a lead slip away in added time to eventually draw 2-2 with the San Jose Earthquakes. With one win in five games, Bob Bradley's men will look to defeat Montreal for a second time in 2022 after knocking the team out of the Canadian Championship semifinals on June 22 at BMO Field by a 4-0 scoreline.
