Grays 1B Jose Velasquez brought some ninth-inning magic with him to the ballpark, smacking a solo home run in the top of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie and claim a 2-1 victory for the Grays against New Jersey. Velasquez had been 0-for-3 on the night before he stepped to the plate in the ninth inning, and there were already two outs before he came to the plate. But his homer was all the Grays needed, as the pitching of starter Richard Bartlett and reliever Jerry Dunn carried them throughout the game. Bartlett and Dunn combined to allow only four hits and a run to New Jersey over nine innings. Bartlett struck out five but exited after the eighth, which gave Dunn the win. New Jersey's pitching was almost as strong behind starter Ryan Pacyna and a scoreless inning of relief from Kevin Fitzgerald. 2B Josh Colafemina ripped three hits to lead the Grays, and he scored their first and only run before Velasquez's longball.

DH Vic Davilla and C Alex Trezza added solo home runs in the seventh and ninth inning to extend North Shore's lead.
